PODCAST: What Community Means, 10.25.12

In the summer of 1954, Mincer’s Pipe Shop celebrated its grand re-opening in a new location on the UVA Corner.

Mincer’s is still there in the same spot— though they sell t-shirts and sweatpants these days, not tobacco.

That’s Bobby Mincer there behind the counter with his mom and dad. He was 18-years old that summer. leaving Lane High School and entering the service.

He returned to the Corner in 1960 and would work there full-time until his retirement 40 years later in 2000.

I went to Bob’s funeral service on Thursday morning, October 25, 2012.

A few hours later I got behind the microphone at the radio station and shared these thoughts.
